i toss my scrunchie at your smiling face, watch you pick it up and laugh. reaching out an open palm i wait for it's return. you grin and shake your head, hiding it away in your sleeve. giggling, i grab your hand, pull you towards me, you pull away. i ruffle through your pockets, beg you, whine, accuse you of stealing, trying all the while to suppress a smile, because you're smiling back at me.
you sprint out the door and i run after you, calling your name between laughs. i catch you, spin around you, grasping for it, you snicker and shake your head again.
"you'll have to pay to get it back."
how can i pay? i've nothing left to give.
you've stolen my scrunchie
and my heart.
